Careers in Automotive Technology

   Automotive Technicians are employed in a variety of automotive businesses. Some of these businesses offer a full range of automotive maintenance and repair services. Some offer only certain types of services. From a career stand point, two important facts stand out. First, automotive service businesses are great in number. Second, these businesses are needed in every community in the country.
Over the last 25 years, the number of vehicles in the United States has increased by 40%. Today, there are well over one-million vehicles on the road. In a single year, Americans spend approximately four-hundred billion dollars to own and operate their vehicles.
There are about fourteen million people employed in the automotive field with economists predicting a continued demand for skilled automotive technicians and other automotive-related professions for many years.
The majority of automotive service businesses fall into one of the following categories:
      New-car dealerships
      Independent garages
      Specialty shops
      Service stations
      Fleet garages
      Auto supply and accessory stores
